If you use the Google suite of online office apps, you’re probably familiar with Google Slides, the Google version of Microsoft PowerPoint. Slides does not have the extensive feature set of PowerPoint, but it is far easier to use, free, and gives users a cloud-based solution for their presentation needs. Using Slide you can create attractive presentations quickly and easily without having a huge learning curve, and all you need is an account on Google Docs and access to the Internet. Slides will even work on a smartphone or a tablet, although it is of course much easier to work from a desktop or laptop machine using a browser.

Slides does have some disadvantages. Features that PowerPoint users have come to take for granted are often simply not available in Slides. For example, in PowerPoint users can easily import PDF files to be part of their presentation deck – there’s no conversion or translation necessary, you simply hit Insert->Object and select your PDF, and presto, it’s part of your presentation. When Slides users want to include a PDF, they hit a brick wall: Slides has an Insert menu but cannot handle arbitrary external objects like PDF files. However, there is a workaround that will allow you to get the information you need into your Slides presentation. It’s not as effortless as the PowerPoint method, but it isn’t too bad. In this article, I will present a simple tutorial on how to insert a PDF into Google Slides.
The basic method is simple. You can’t directly insert a PDF directly into Google Slides, but you can insert image files, and you can link those image files to online resources. So what you need to do is to create image files from your PDF and insert those image files into the Slides document. If you want the image file(s) from the PDF to link to the original PDF document, you can ensure that PDF is available online (using an online file repository) and link one or more images from your Slides document to the online copy of the PDF. It isn’t the most elegant of workarounds but it gets the job done.
There are really three approaches here. The first method is to take a screenshot of each and every page in the PDF. This might be an enormous hassle, depending on the size of the PDF. Alternatively, you can just take a screenshot of the cover page of the PDF and link it, and then during your presentation, you (or the people viewing the presentation) can click on the cover page and visit the online PDF. This does take them out of the flow of your presentation, however. It’s a judgment call. The third approach is to convert the PDF into a series of JPG files. Realplayer one download for mac os x. Recently I have discovered a fourth way to insert a PDF into a Slides document, and that is by converting the PDF into a Powerpoint document, uploading the Powerpoint document to your Drive, and then opening it as a Slides document. I’ll describe this complete process as well.

As long as the PDF file is accessible to those you are presenting to, it will be available both at the time of the presentation and afterwards if you send out the slideshow.
Convert the PDF into a JPG
Perhaps the simplest approach, particularly if the PDF file isn’t likely to change, is to just convert the PDF file into a series of JPGs, which you can then directly import into your Slides presentation. There are many programs and web services available to do the conversion for you. One straightforward and reputable free service is PDFCandy. All you need is the PDF file stored on your local drive, Google Drive, or your Dropbox.

Insert a PDF into a PowerPoint presentation
If you decide that this method is too crude or too much hassle, you can always use PowerPoint. While it costs money, most new computers come with a copy of Office even if it’s just a trial. This works similarly to Google Sheets but inserts the whole PDF file behind the image. It is a more workable method as you don’t have to make the PDF file available separately; it’s integrated into your PowerPoint document.
You can also insert a PDF into a PowerPoint presentation as an object. This time you need to ensure the PDF file is not open on your computer.
The PDF should now become part of the slide and will stay as an object within the slide. Double click the file image to open the PDF.
Convert the PDF into a Powerpoint and Open the Powerpoint in Slides

The first step is to take the PDF and convert it into a Powerpoint presentation. There are several different ways to accomplish this. If you have a license for Adobe Acrobat, you can directly convert the document as follows:
Most of us don’t have Adobe Acrobat, however, and will have to rely on a third-party tool. There are a wide variety of available tools online; in this example, I will show you how to use SmallPDF.com, an online converter that is simple and reliable. You can subscribe to the pro version of SmallPDF if you plan to do a lot of converting, but for a one-off project you can use the free service.
Once you have the converted PPT file, you need to visit Google Drive and upload the Powerpoint to your Drive directory.
Then, simply right-click on the file in Google Drive, select Open With, and select Slides. Presto, your PDF file is now a Slides file and you can use it as you wish within Slides. Note that you may lose elaborate formatting, so this is a process best suited for straightforward PDF files.
Google Slides has earned a place in many people’s online toolkits, including mine; it’s simple, easy to use and designed around the needs of the normal user rather than corporate types. No software is perfect, however, and the inability to directly import PDFs is a weakness of Slides. Fortunately there are workarounds that will allow you to (sort of) insert a PDF into Google Slides!

Google Docs has a ton of benefits. You’re less likely to lose data to corrupt or lost files, can collaborate in real-time, and can also upload your Word documents and access them anywhere.
But Google Docs has one downside you can’t ignore – image extraction. That’s right, you can’t extract images directly from Google Docs.
No worries, though, as there are workarounds. Here are three workarounds to extract images from Google Docs.

1. Use ScreenshotsHow To Download An Image From Google Slides
This option is best for extracting just one or two images from a document, and there are better options for extracting multiple images or all of the images from a document.
You can use any image-editing software to achieve this.
1. Go to Google Docs on your browser.
2. Select and open the document you want to extract images from.
3. With the page open, scroll to the image you want to extract. On your keyboard, press Ctrl + Print Screen to take a screenshot. If you are using Mac, simply press Command + Shift + 3, and it will save the screenshot to your desktop.
4. Open the screenshot with an image editor, and extract the image you want from the screenshot.
2. Use “Publish to Web”
In this method the document that contains the picture you want to extract, is first published to the Web. The method works best if you want to edit the images first before downloading them.
1. Open the document you want to use on Google Docs.
2. Click “File” on the top-left of the page. On the dropdown click “Publish to the web …”
3. Under “Link” you’ll see a blue “Publish” button. Click on it.
4. Click “OK” on the next pop-up.

5. Copy the link that is generated, paste it to a new tab and click your Enter key to load the page.
6. If you choose to save an image on your computer immediately, right-click on the image, and select “Save Image As.”
7. Select the location you want to save images to and click OK.
Remember to stop publishing when you’re done extracting the images. Go back to the Google Docs document you published. Click “File -> Publish to the web,” and then under “Published content & settings,” click on the “Stop publishing” button.
You may have to expand the “Published content & settings” if you don’t see the button.
Make sure to uncheck the “Automatically republish when changes are made” checkbox, and then click OK on the next pop-up.

If there are too many images in the document, and you want to extract them all, you might want to use this method.

The following shows how it works.
1. Click “File” and select “Download As” from the drop-down. Go to “web page (.html, zipped)” on the list that follows.
